New photos of Kim Jong Un’s weight loss lead to rumors swirling about his health

Kim Jong Un seemingly didn’t tack on any pandemic weight.

A year after speculation that the North Korean leader had died due to adverse health, new photos were released by the isolated Asian nation that appear to show a slimmed down version of Kim.

According to photos analyzed by NK News, photos of Kim addressing his politburo showed that he has lost a “significant amount of weight.”

The South Korean news agency that delved deep into the photos also noticed that the purported $12,000 watch on Kim’s wrist appeared to be tighter than what it was in previous years.

The rumored 37-year-old third generational leader of North Korea is known for being a heavy smoker and suffer from obesity due to poor lifestyle choices according to observers.

South Korean intelligence services believed that Kim weighed 309 pounds last year and gained nearly 13-15 pounds yearly since taking power after the death of his father, Kim Jong-il in December 2011.

“It may be a simple matter of a healthy lifestyle change or a more complex issue,” said Mike Brodka, a U.S. intelligence officer for U.S. Special Operations command in South Korea, to NK News. “Right now, we do not know, but it raises enough serious questions that we must pay attention to events over the next couple of months to find out.”

The Kim family is well known for having a history of cardiovascular issues, with experts from NK News saying that Kim Jong Un is at a high risk for developing heart disease. However, due to his relatively young age, many experts are not convinced that he faces serious health issues from his weight.
